Cheap website design, done properly.
What cheap web design actually costs in 2026, what you get for your money, and where the corners get cut. No spin.
What "cheap" actually means in 2026
"Cheap" is a loaded word. To one business owner it means £50 from Fiverr. To another it means £800 from a freelancer instead of £4,000 from an agency. Both are valid, and they buy you very different things.
On this page we lay out the real UK market — what each price band gets you, what gets cut, and where PageLaunch sits (£120-£480 one-off, £4.99-£29.99/mo hosting). No hard sell. By the end you should know whether we're right for you, or whether you need to spend more.
Typical UK prices in 2026
Here's what people are actually charging right now for a five-page small business site:
- Fiverr / overseas freelancer: £50-£250. Mixed quality, often template sites with weak SEO.
- UK freelancer (entry): £400-£900. Decent design, usually a one-person operation.
- UK freelancer (mid): £900-£2,500. Custom design, proper SEO setup.
- Small UK agency: £2,000-£5,000. More polish, project management, account handler.
- Mid-tier agency: £5,000-£15,000. Strategy work, multiple stakeholders, slower delivery.
- PageLaunch: £120-£480 one-off + £4.99-£29.99/mo. Fixed scope, modern tooling, fast turnaround.
What you get for £120 with us
A single-page mobile-first website with your branding, a contact form, a Google Maps embed, schema markup for local SEO, and the basics of on-page SEO done properly. Hosted on fast UK servers from £4.99/mo. Live in five working days.
It's deliberately scoped. We can't build you a full e-commerce store for £120 — we don't pretend to. But for a sole trader, mobile hairdresser, plumber, café or local service business who needs a proper shop window, it's plenty.
What we don't include (and when you need more)
We don't build payment-processing e-commerce at the £120 price. We don't build booking systems from scratch — we integrate existing ones (Fresha, Calendly, Booksy). We don't do full custom branding from a logo upwards; you bring branding, we build the site.
If you need any of those, the Growth (£240) and Scale (£480) plans cover most cases. For a multi-product e-commerce store you're looking at £1,500+ from a specialist — and that's honest, not us upselling.

Red flags in cheap web design
- No mention of who owns the domain or hosting at the end
- Pricing in dollars from a "UK" agency
- Stock photos used as your "examples"
- Vague delivery timeline ("a few weeks" with no commitment)
- No contact details on the designer's own website
- Required upfront payment with no contract or scope document
- Promises of "guaranteed page 1 Google" — nobody can promise that
Quick case study
A mobile beautician in Burgess Hill came to us last year having paid £900 for a Wix site that didn't rank, didn't take bookings, and looked nothing like her brand. We rebuilt the whole thing for £240 in four days. She's now ranking in the top three for "mobile nails Burgess Hill" and her booking rate has tripled.

Who should and shouldn't use us
Use us if: you're a small business or sole trader, you want a fixed price, and you don't need anything bespoke beyond a clean professional site. Don't use us if: you need a full e-commerce build with 500+ products, complex user accounts, or custom integrations to your bespoke CRM. There are good UK agencies for that — we'll happily point you to one.
For most local trades, salons, cafés and small service businesses, we are the right fit. For everyone else, fair enough.
